The Gaming Giant Hires Apex Legends Lead to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Poor Response

Brinkman takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full text from the president's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”

With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our players.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After a period of talks, Ben comes aboard us on the specified date.

His management and experience in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.

Let’s together in welcoming Ben next week. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the evolution of the game in the time to follow.

The President
